Q: Weather app no longer shows my village

I've just (10th May, 2016) upgraded to iphone SE.

Previously the Weather App showed the correct name of my village and, when I walked to the neighbouring village, the location changed appropriately. This being England I can reasonably expect the neighbouring village to have weather differing from my home village. iphone SE Weather App just indicates the nearest city, which has weather very different from here.

Furthermore, I can't even add my village to the list: it has been removed from the face of the Earth.

The Maps App shows my location correctly.

I have location services enabled.

I am aware of the existence of other weather apps, but I want the default app to work properly.

Any sensible suggestions would be very welcome.

Cheers

Apple's Weather app pulls this information directly from The Weather Channel. Have you tried searching your village there to compare? Just a curious point of isolation.

Thank you for replying to my post.

My village appears when I use the Weather Channel.

Furthermore, when I compare the information on my iphone SE with weather information on my previous phone, it is obvious that the weather app is using the correct location for my village, not the nearest city, but the app is not displaying the correct name for my location.

    Cheers

That helps! Now have you attempted removing your village, or possibly a neighboring village you might care less about losing, from your old phone and attempting to re-add it to further isolate your issue? Also, are both phones running the same version of the OS?

Knowing these details can help in isolating the issue to the software itself, and it would be worth knowing if that means the same issue occurs when both phones are on the latest iOS or if this is only reproduced on the new SE. If it can only be repeated on the new SE after having successfully re-added on the old phone, then restoring the SE as new through iTunes would be a next step of attempting to resolve the issue. [backup beforehand of course, just in case it isn't]

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

If the issue persists even after setting up the SE as new, and it cannot be reproduced on the old phone, it's time to report it to Apple so their Engineers can have their eyes on it for a potential solution or future update to resolve it.

Thank you again for your reply.

My previous iphone is so ancient that it is running OS 7 (and will go no further): the iphone SE was updated to the latest operating system earlier today.

    I shall attack iphone support!

I contacted Apple support and found out that the recent OS updates restrict the Weather App to setting your location to the nearst city. A retrogade step, I reckon.
