Q: why magic mouse won't connect: a pc geek's dilemma

(I'm writing this post to hopefully help the tens-of-thousands of PC users who migrate to the Mac, buy an $80 mouse, and go through the same **** as me)

For weeks I've been struggling with my new Magic Mouse 2 apparently unable to connect to my MacBook after being switched off for a period of time.

Opening the mouse settings and turning it off and on makes the mouse appear and suddenly disappear and display "no mouse connected".

I spent hours trolling the forums, sifting through discussions and trying many of the solutions including the following:

- reboot the mac

- turn wifi off

- connect usb cable

- change mouse name to remove apostrophe

While many of these suggestions were actually valid, none were permanent "real" solutions.

Being that the problem was intermittent and I had these workarounds, I continued to put up with it ... until one day: I figured it out! all on my own...

As it turns out, the answer to my dilemma was so simple and completely ridiculous:

after turning the mouse on ... CLICK IT! ... that's it. No software updates, no driver incompatibilities, no mysterious electro-magnetic interference ... just "user error".  You gotta be kidding me!

You see, with a Bluetooth or wireless mouse on a PC with Windows, all you do is power on the mouse and it connects. No fuss, no muss.

So why was this critical step in this magical mouse connection process not mentioned in the Apple documentation or in ANY of the posts I read for that matter?

I would love to hear any response to this post - would be nice to know I'm not the only one in the world who went through this.
