Airplay drops after short inactivity

I'm having problems with Airplay on my iPad - it works fine - it'll play all day UNTIL that is, I pause a track (whilst using Spotify). When I resume playback the sound is played through my iPad speakers rather than the Airplay device - I have to select the Airplay device all over again. To an extent, this has always happened, but recently it seems the "timeout" period has reduced significantly. Ideally I'd like to lock the Airplay to my HiFi device until another App needs to use it. Any Ideas welcome thanks.

I've done a bit more troubleshooting - using my iPhone as well as my iPad AND using 2 different streaming devices. The problem persists - suggesting it's an iOS issue. At first I thought I'd solved it my using my iPhone (rather than iPad) however, the time it takes for the device to decide it's going to drop my Airplay connection is variable - sometimes drops straight after I've paused and some times if I resume after a minute the connection is still good. There is never any stutter whilst playing, the iOS devices seem to have a mind of their own. I wish someone could explain w the f is going on.

Hi Diana,

My Hi Fi streaming devices are made by Linn (the model is irrelevant as I have 2 different ones and they both exhibit the same issue with my iOS devices). I have been on the Linn Forums and other Linn users were quick to advise they are experiencing the same thing. Some have suggested the behaviour we are experiencing became markedly worse after the introduction of iOS9. I thought the issue could be related to Spotify but the same (airplay connection drop after pause) behaviour occurs with the inbuilt iOS music application and so that was a red herring - nothing to do with Spotify either. I firmly believe this is an iOS issue. I appreciate Apple will deny it's their problem but any help in sorting this highly annoying issue would be appreciated.

So, as a test, I started Slacker radio AirPlay from iPad Air 9.3.3 to Apple TV 9.2.2. Let it play for a moment, then paused for 5 minutes, using the iPad Slacker app. Play resumed smoothly. How long a pause is required to cause the drop that you observe? Is it possible that you're doing something on your device or receiver that triggers the disconnect? Might you need to update the firmware on your receivers?
