Q: Airplay drops after short inactivity

I'm having problems with Airplay on my iPad - it works fine - it'll play all day UNTIL that is, I pause a track (whilst using Spotify). When I resume playback the sound is played through my iPad speakers rather than the Airplay device - I have to select the Airplay device all over again. To an extent, this has always happened, but recently it seems the "timeout" period has reduced significantly. Ideally I'd like to lock the Airplay to my HiFi device until another App needs to use it. Any Ideas welcome thanks.

Per-to-peer AirPlay uses Bluetooth for discovery and doesn't require both devices to be on the same network. If you don't need Bluetooth, you're not using it.

Apple added security in the form of encryption to video AirPlay with iOS 9. This probably doen't affect audio AirPlay, but it put reverse-engineered video receivers out of business. Is that mean? AirPlay is a proprierary protocol used to communicate between Apple products. There's no reason to expect it to work with other products. Since my observations show that audio AirPlay does not tend to disconnect automatically when the music pauses, the Linn implementation may be missing some aspect of the protocol.

It may well be - "missing some aspect of the protocol"- this will matter little to me - as I now, as a result of this thread, intend to move away from Apple - it's just too much of a "closed" system, and when all's said and done, there are better more "open" products out there.

I tried to edit my previous but could not - obviously some kind of Apple glitch? All I wanted to say was, I think it is perhaps not the best move (not in Apples best interest) to remove previously working third party functionality. I'm sure some folks will think - hmm - better get Apple TV - not me, and I suspect I'm not alone.
