You would import them, and when the Import window comes up in Photos, you would select the photos you want to upload. Be aware, however, that once you import them, they won't show up in the import window again.

Why not just create a Shared Album? iCloud: Create a shared album

Once you do that, you just send it to your friend, and it goes to their Shared Album folder.

When you connect the iPhone to USB you can select which photos to import. The import panel in the Photos for Mac application or Image Capture will show all photos and you can select which should be imported.

An alternative would be a Shared album, but Shared albums do not transfer the photos in the full pixel size. DO you need to transfer the photos in full quality?

Transfer photos with AirDrop

You can use AirDrop to instantly share photos with anyone nearby who has a Mac or iOS device. You don’t need to set up any special accounts; you and the person you’re sending to just need to be on the same Wi-Fi network or have a Bluetooth connection.
