Q: Strange internet connectivity issues

Hello!

I'm having a connectivity issue that I've never encountered before. I am using an Apple wireless router with cable internet.

Yesterday, my computer would no longer connect with my wi-fi router. I get a message that the network could not be joined (I ran the Wireless Diagnostics, but it's all a bunch of meaningless files to me). However, I also have a Roku, and that IS connected to the wi-fi with no problem. I fully shut down and restarted the computer, no joy. Reset the modem and the router, no joy. Still works with Roku, not with the computer. But the bizarre part is, I have Optimum Online, which allows subscribers to log-in to its hotspots, and that worked! I'm connected through Optimum wi-fi on my computer right now.

So I don't know where the problem is! It's not the router, because that's connected and working with Roku, and it's not the computer because that's connected and working with the Optimum hotspot. What gives?!

Mac mini (Late 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

    Try this!

Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Network

Select Wi-Fi in the sidebar then click on the "Advanced…" button in the bottom-right corner of the screen

In the list of Preferred Networks delete your Wi-Fi network name

Click "OK" button to save that change and then "Apply" in the Network preference pane.

Now go to Applications folder > Utilities > Keychain Access

Make sure "Login" keychain is selected and "All Items" under Category is selected in the sidebar

Use the search field to search for Keychain items with the name of your Wi-Fi network and delete them

    Quit Keychain Access

Now try and join your Wi-Fi network

Well, I didn't have a chance to try this out last night, and when I finally woke my computer (just now) I was able to hook up to my own internet without even going through this process! Don't know what happened, but I won't complain. Thanks for this; if it happens again I'll see if it works!
