I've been using final cut pro X for about a year and edited many videos with no issues. Now, when I import clips into a project, they play back fine but once I add an effect, I lose frames. There are now black frames in each clip that has an effect on it.

WWhat are the media specs? What are the project properties? What effects are you applying?
It's an MP4 clip that is about 2 minutes long, I tried applying the flashback transition and the underwater effect respectively. It happened when I applied any video effects as well.
PPlease give complete and exact details. MPEG-4 is not sufficient. You did not give the project properties. Do you have any speed changes?
I'll admit I'm not a programmer for Final Cut Pro, or an expert at where to find these properties. Can I speak to a live person about this who can guide me through where to find out all this info you need?
