Q: Install OS onto new SSD

I have a 2009 iMac 27 and am replacing the HD with an SSD. I have the new SSD installed and have a copy of a MBP OS DVD/CD. Can someone tell me how to get the OS on the new SSD? Is it doable with the MBP CD/DVD?

VIN,iMac (27-inch Late 2009), Mac OS X (10.6)

If it is the gray disk that was shipped with the MBP, it won't work as it is only

made for the model of MBP it shipped with.

Ways you can install OS X:

    1.  If you still have the old drive with the OS on it, you can get a USB-to-SATA adapter

and clone the drive onto the SSD.

    2.  If your 2011 iMac previously had OS X 10.7 or later installed on it, you should be able to

use internet recovery: OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

    3.  If the MBP is yours and you have OS X 10.7 or later on it, you can go to the

MacApp Store and download an OS X installation app and make a USB stick

stand alone installer for it.  (Create a bootable installer for OS X - Apple Support).

    4.  Call Apple and purchase a Snow Leopard DVD for $19.95 and update to newer OSX

         from that.
