LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt 2TB Drive not connecting

Hi,

I purchased this yesterday.

Have the base required OSX level 10.6.8.

Connecting drive, I would have expected (if formated), that my OS would see it, and push me into the setup install.

However I cannot see the drive.

However, under "Abouth this Mac", I can see that it has been recognised, yet it's not appearing in finder.

Rugged THB USB3:

Vendor Name: LaCie

Device Name: Rugged THB USB3

Vendor ID: 0x3

Device ID: 0xC

Device Revision: 0x2

UID: 0x0003000031B50820

Firmware Version: 7.3

Port:

Status: Connected

Link Status: 2

Super Port Micro Firmware Version: 0.0.17

Registered the product with LaCie, downloaded the manual, and they have assumed no issues and OS will see the drive and therefore access to the setup installation software.

OK. In reading other's posts on this device, I have unplugged drive, restarted my computer, and replugged the device, with no change in the status above.

Disk utility cannot see the drive.

The backup software on the LaCie site cannot see the drive either, as it's not mounted.

df -k does not show the drive.

Help?

Have raised a ticket with LaCie Support.

Thanks everyone.

ok i've read:

External thunderbolt hard disk not powered from MBP

My drive is getting power from the Thunderbolt port.

Also I'm running 22.1 version of the thunderbolt firmware, which is what the two patches mentioned in the knowledgebase article are supposed to achieve.

MacBook Pro:

Vendor Name: Apple, Inc.

Device Name: MacBook Pro

UID: 0x0001000A163BECE0

Firmware Version: 22.1

Port:

Status: Connected

Link Status: 2/7

Port Micro Firmware Version: 2.0.7

Rugged THB USB3:

Vendor Name: LaCie

Device Name: Rugged THB USB3

Vendor ID: 0x3

Device ID: 0xC

Device Revision: 0x2

UID: 0x0003000031B50820

Firmware Version: 7.3

Port:

Status: Connected

Link Status: 2

Super Port Micro Firmware Version: 0.0.17

So the solution in the article above won't resolve my issue.

Guess I need to wait for LaCie to respond to my case.

Further to the above, if I installed the two firmware patches it would screw my MBP.

1st patch firmware 1.0 would be ok as 10.6.8 is supported.

2md patch firmware 1.2 requires 10.8.3

Upgrading my OS is not an option at present due to other development environments that I'm running on this platform.

But I don't need to upgrade firmware since i'm already running 22.1.

But MBP can't mount the drive.

Lights flicker on device (which would normally result in device mounting). But it doesn't when connected the thunderbolt port. Perhaps it's flickering to connect. Don't understand how it doesn't mount when connected.

Anyway the Kernel log also show clean connection.

Been on the phone with LaCie technical support, and they were no help. Just suggested trying to connect the drive with another Mac Platform, and the only other one I have is in the box.

Will look at going back to the shop and try and get some technical support there. Could replace product to isolate whether there is an issue with the connector but probably just as easy to connect to another computer, like a mini-mac.
