Q: Upgrade OS 9.2.1 to 10.8+?
First off, I'm a Windows person...sorry. The only thing I know about eyePads is how to spell eyePad! I tried reading some of the other threads but there are too many unknowns to get a clear picture of what I need to do. Anyway...
A friend asked me to install his new printer, which I did with no trouble on his Windows systems. However, his wife has an A1566 iPad, which appears to be an Air 2. The current OS is 9.2.1 and the printer requires 10.8+. As far as I can determine the upgrade is possible on this hardware. The question is how to get there from here.
What is a viable upgrade path? I get a sense that it's not a one-step process and will require an OS purchase along the way? Will I be forced to use physical media at some point? The only thing he has to plug into the iPad is the charger.
As a side note, I tried to download the printer drivers (a .ZIP file) and got "Safari can't download this file". I'm not sure what to do with that! I can't even download it on a PC because I can't see an obvious way to get it to the iPad.
Suggestions?
Thank you,
Kevin

An iPad uses the iOS operating system. The current version of that is iOS 9.3.2
The 10.8 that you are referring to is likely for the OS X operating system which is used on a Mac computer -- not an iPad.
You cannot download printer drivers to an iPad.
Typically printing from an iPad is via AirPrint: Use AirPrint to print from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
