Q: MacBook Pro keeps freezing regularly

I have a MacBook Pro Mid-2012 model. Recently it keeps on freezing at regular intervals and the beach ball icon appears. When I switch it on, it's take 3-4 minutes for the login screen to come up. Every time I click anywhere, the beach ball icon appears for 5-10 seconds and then processes what it needs to. I opened itunes and started playing music and even the music keeps on pausing and playing by itself. I thought it may have been a software issue so I formatted my HDD and reinstalled El Capitan but the problem still remains. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    Hello frozen.ice,

I'm curious. I was that an actual Apple store? And was that the price to replace your current hard drive with another, identical hard drive? Or were they offering to give you an SSD for that price? You would have to find a new SATA cable "on the internet".

There is an anecdote that some of the internal SATA cable problems may have been cause by abrasion against the machined aluminum surface under the drive. This graphic from a youtube video by Brue computing suggests a posible "fix", provided that is the ONLY problem in the cable:

The drive itself was removed for photographic clarity. One strip of tape to insulate the cable itself, one strip of tape on the machined surface as "insurance".

As Red is associated with speed, it may be important to use Red electrical tape (as shown) when transitioning to a high-speed drive such as an SSD.

It was an authorized Apple reseller. This was in South Africa, not the US. The price was to replace the current hard drive with another identical hard drive, not an SSD. It's a rip off! Thanks, I will try look for a cable online!
