Remove blurred image backgrounds. In Settings, go to General > Accessibility > Increase Contrast, then turn on Reduce Transparency.
Highlight selected items further. In Settings, go to General > Accessibility > Increase Contrast, then turn on Focus Style.

May 22, 2016 3:16 PMby Gino_Cerullo,Thanks for the suggestions but those were the first two I tried. I eluded to turning off transparency in my original post as well.
Reduce Transparency effectively turns off transparency for the background area I'm concerned about but the background and the text sitting on top of it are still too close in value, not enough contrast.
Increase contrast, while it sounds like it is the solution, turns on white borders around the icons on the Home Screen and adds a darker background behind the category headings above the descriptions I am concerned about. The text in that header area is already white and therefore a high enough contrast against the background grey colour so increasing contrast in that area seems pointless.
