Have you tried playing the exported file from the Desktop with Quicktime Player?

I draged the desktop file to the video section

What do you mean by video section? If it'a a drop zone start again and drag it into the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones. Then see if it will play with audio (after making sure it will play with audio with QT Player from the Desktop).

Where did the audio file that you added come from?

i draged the file from desktop to the video menu and it worked

Be sure to not move the movie file from the Desktop until the project is completed and burned. Or you can save the project as an archived project which will copy the media files into the iDVD project file so you can then remove the media files from the Desktop. OR put the media file is a permanent location on your hard drive before adding them to the iDVD project.

I would use a different theme. Some of the animated themes have problems with El Capitan. I prefer to use one of the older, static themes where I can add my own image file to be the background.

Be sure to follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
