Q: iPhone 4 not working properly at all - Please help!

Hello, just now my iPhone 4 ceased to stop working properly at all. In order for it to simply power on, it has be plugged into the wall. When it does, the screen flickers rapidly with some small and hardly noticeable horizontal lines. It shuts down randomly and frequently, has the completely wrong date and time, and it says wifi and cellular data are not available. I'm able to enter my passcode and swipe and get to applications fine, but besides that I'm not able to make phone calls or do anything normally. Also, I did some small research and I think it may be due to me dropping it once, but that was yesterday and it showed no signs of damage at all at the time. Please help!

EDIT: My bad, posted this in the wrong forum. Meant to post it in iPhone Hardware. Sorry!

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.2, null

The drop is likely the reason but if you wish you could try a Forced Restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. You will not lose anything.

If a forced restart does not help try a System Restore. First backup your device using iTunes. Also import your photos to your computer and copy all important data. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup. Here are the steps for a Restore:

Force restart didn't work, so I have the iPhone plugged into the computer now. It won't turn on now, all I get is the apple logo on and off for a few seconds (and I'm not even pressing the home or wake/sleep buttons) and now iTunes won't detect the phone, so I can't perform a restore. Is there no hope?

EDIT: I tried another force restart and waited a little while, and the flickering has gone down to the point where I barely notice it, and the horizontal bars are gone as well.

All the other problems I mentioned are still there. (not turning on without plugged into wall, wifi and data unavailable, shuts down randomly)

    No other options?

Recovery mode is about it. Otherwise it is a hardware fault.

    Recovery Mode

Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes.

While your device is connected, force restart it: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, and don't release when you see the Apple logo.

Keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen and wait for it to restore.

Restore as New first and then restore from backup if desired.

Tried launching it into recovery mode. iTunes recognized the phone in recovery mode, and I clicked the "Restore and Update" option. After the "Extracting software..." part, it got to the "Waiting for iPhone...",  and the phone proceeded to flash for a second and iTunes said it couldn't be updated. Unknown error (2001)

    Guess that didn't work.

I also tried asking a friend, he said it was a problem with the battery and I can grab one really cheap online and it'll be fixed. Should I do that or just take it in to an apple store or best buy near me?

You can read about error 2001 here:  Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support

How would your friend know, he has no idea. Best to stick with Apple Store or Best Buy.
