Thanks for the help.   If I may, two more questions.

I tried to remove some things from my phone and when I did, I noticed they got removed from my album on the laptop as well.

First off, I turned a few things off in my phone thinking that  might help.  Don't think so. I share all devices with the cloud.  Maybe I did it too late. They are gone gone gone.

I have pictures saved in iPhoto on the laptop. I don't need them on my phone. How do I delete from the phone?  I am going on a few trips and want to clear the memory or database.,

Next, I have two sets of photos. I know they are there somewhere. Somehow they are gone from the albums.  How can I locate them.  I have been trying to go through all photos. No luck so far.  Any suggestions.

We need to know what you have (the current software is OS X 10.11.5 and Photos 1.5)  and what your iCloud settings are on the Mac and the iPhone

1 - If you are using Photos and ICPL then what you describe is how it works - the entire purpose of ICPL is to keep all devices exactly the same and all additions, deletions or edits made on any device are made on all devices

For devices with limited storage you do not delete photos but you set to use optimized photos on that device in the iCLoud preferences

For photos deleted within the last 30 days look in the recently deleted album and restore from there

2 - again we need more information - what software are you using?

3 - and again you posted in the iPhoto forum and talk about iPhoto but your question sounds like you may have Photos - we need to know what yu really have - and why do you know that these photos are "somewhere" - and what has changed since they were in the correct albums?

1 - do you have the iCloud Photo Library enabled on both devices?

2 - do you have the My Photo Stream enabled on both devices?

3 - from where on your iPhone are you deleting the photos, i.e the Camera Roll or the My Photo Stream?

I have 10.10.5 on my laptop.  I thought I have the newer photo program.  I turned off the photo stream from my phone.

I have found the recently deleted photos.  I also was able to find one large set of photos by date and location.  One is still missing, so I am thinking I actually deleted them while creating albums.  Not sure how to tell what version of PHOTO or iPHOTO I have.

iCloud is on my phone, iPads and computer. All other functions, contact, calendar, email work just fine.  It updates with wifi connection.

I really think I am having iPhoto or PHOTO issues with creating albums.

Is there a written document I can review?

    Thanks

Larry- did you already get this?  I am really going wacky here.  Don't know why it is showing up again. I am trying to carve out some time to read everything you sent me including the FAQ    about iCloud.

Use the About ➙ Photos or iPhoto menu to see what version you're using.

The latest version of PHotos is 1.5 which is included with the 10.11.5 system.  There have been many improvements and added features with bug fixes since the 10.10.5 version.
