Does replacing an iPhone battery void warranty?

Some of my cousins named David is 12 years younger than me, he's 21, but he has an iPhone 5 and I saw him today and he wanted to replace his battery using screws. I did replace them on some phones, but does it void warranty? He uses iOS 8.1.2.

iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 9.2.1, White Gold

If anyone but Apple does any work on an iPhone, then the warranty is void.

What if you bought your iPhone for over 3-4 years, David's iPhone is 3 1/2 years,

Apple would still have replaced the battery at a cost of $79. If the phone had been covered under the battery recall, he might have been eligible for it to be replaced for free. Now, Apple will never touch it again.
