Q: Service battery issue

I have a mid 2009 white Macbook, 5,2.  A couple of days ago I noticed the 'service battery' indicator was on, just a few days after upgrading to OS X 10.11.5 from 10.11.4.  I'm thinking it may not be my battery but instead a problem with the Apple update.  I know my battery is old but it has only 184 cycles.  Coconut Battery shows 70.1% which I know is low.  Can Apple look into this to see if the update is the issue?  I have already ordered a new battery through Ebay (which is another issue).  I think that battery may be (pretty sure it is) a counterfeit.  Please help!  Thank you.

The service battery icon comes on depending on the quality of the battery and is unrelated to the OS version. I would not recommend to install the counterfeit battery. I don't know what apple would advice you but im guessing it would be: "service your battery"

    Now follows a personal story:

However unless your battery is performing badly you don't necessarily need to change it. I ran over 1000 cycles on my 2009 white macbook before the battery really started to become bad (1h of normal use) and i could still squeeze 3,5h of microsoft word out of it. I just ignored the warning.

    Hope this helps!
