How to trim large movie for uploading to YouTube

In my Finder, under All Movies, there is a video I wish to upload to YouTube. However, the original is very large at 1.64 GB (or at least that is what "Get Info" tells me within Finder). I already tried splitting the movie into 4 parts using the Trim feature, but even then each segment is between 300 & 420 MB each!

Is there an easy way to split the entire movie into many parts, with each one being the maximum size accepted by YouTube? I could then title them with Part #'s for uploading to YouTube. Not sure, but I think YouTube has a max of 25 MB per movie upload? So I guess I'll end up with way too many Parts, LOL.

I could delete parts of the film strip, but I'm not familiar with the process and have only ever 'trimmed' the movie from the 'front end' or the 'back end' (yup, I said I'm not an expert). Bottom line: I want to get get the whole movie onto YouTube somehow.

All advice welcome. The movie is already 4 yrs old and I haven't figured this out in order to share with family.

How about you doing your own online search for You Tube tutorials for how to use the version of iMovie that you have on your OS X 10.6.8 iMac and how to edit clips to make your movies shorter and lower in file size.

The discussion and answers you need are too detailed tedious to be covered in a troubleshooting forum.

Plenty of YouTube videos to help you with your movie editing issues.

You just needs to search for the iMovie tutorial you need.

You had 4 years to do your own search on how to edit your own created movies.

YouTube has plenty of videos tutorials to help you with this and you can play these video along while actual using iMovie to do the tutorial!

I have indeed done tried tutorials and lots of research MichelPM ...that's how I was able to split the movie into 4 parts. But I'm a 73 yr old from the Woodstock generation and I find some of this tech stuff to be confusing... especially as I haven't been able to afford updating various programs on my also aging iMac ...as my Social Security income is limiting (remember that, and stash that 'ol 401k with as much moolah as possible while you're young). Now, back to my research...ugh!

Well,

When users post here, we do not have any ideas about age.

Many times we get users who are just plain lazy and want us to do all of the search legwork for them, which in many cases is simply not realistic.

I am not that young, myself, any longer.

I am 54 and disabled with a heart that looks like it came out of someone your age or older.

I am only a part-time professional, now, working from home and only taking graphic design/illustration jobs that I can easily handle, with minmal stress and trying to make some extra spending cash with creating and selling my own digital artworks.

While I am not too overweight (5'-7" and weigh around 220 pounds) I never ate that well as an adult.

So, I only have myself to blame for the state of my health.

Anyhow, that was my reason for the response I gave you.

The amount of written, detailed steps to edit a movie in iMovie is just too invovled to post in a troubleshooting forum when there a plenty of resources to address your movie editing issues out on the web.

FWIW, the reason i posted is because your video is well within YouTube's limits so you can upload it whole without splitting or compressing it. The only issue is time. If you want to tell me what your connection speed is I can give you an idea how long it would take to upload.

Thank you dialabrain ...Are you saying the 1.64 GB is well within YouTube's limits? (doubt it). Or are you referring to the 4 parts I created? (each one beween 300 to 420 MB). I totally am ready to upload the 4 parts individually if you think YouTube would accept them.

Any idea how I find my connection speed? I DID search for info on how to do it, but once again everything comes up 'tech talk' ...as on this site, leaving me clueless: kad: Testing your internet connection speed

PS: I have a desktop; not using WiFi.

If you read my post, you will see the limit is 128GBs or 78 times larger than your file. The link I posted explains how.

go to http://www.speedtest.net/

run the test and post your upload speed.

Download Speed = 8.56 Mbps

Upload Speed = 0.82 Mbps

I use Firefox and it IS up to date.

It would take almost 5 hrs to upload. Might be something you want to start then find things to do or nap.

Okay.... confession due. Prior to contacting this forum for help, I did try to upload the full 1.64GB video to YouTube. It kept uploading and uploading, and the minutes-to-finish appeared to be hours away; I assumed YouTube was going to reject the upload at some point, so I panicked and cancelled the upload.

Yahoo.... now I know it will be okay!! I'll choose the wee hours one evening to start the upload ...should be done by sunrise! ;o))

I take it you enabled the code to allow larger uploads. Hours is correct. Your connection speed is very low in this day in age to deal with such large files. I won't trouble you with the time it would take me.
