Where is the return key on magic keyboard without sending?

I have recently purchased a new iMac. When typing a message I want to start a new paragraph but when I hit the Enter key, the message is sent rather than going to a new line. What is the key combination to start a new paragraph. No instructions are provided.

Sorry dialabrain, I went to the Messages Help area and found the Apple shortcuts there. Woodmeister50 suggested Option + Return, with just produced a duplication of what I had written at the cursor point. So I tried Command + Return and that did the trick. Thank you for your advice which pointed me in the right direction to solve the problem. Well done.

Hi Again, yes I have a brand new iMac system with keyboard from a respected Apple dealer. This is another interesting fact. I could only get the new line in messages when pressing Command + Return, however after reading your last message to me pointing out that the correct shortcut should be Control + Return, I connected the wireless keyboard to the main screen unit with the lighting connector, provided for recharging, then tried Control + Return and it worked as it should do. This has been an interesting exercise but I am pleased to say that the problem is completely solved now. It was very frustrating before I had the correct answer, thanks to you and other Community members who offered ideas.
