Q: computer crashing on long card import

Sorry, I know I've seen this answered before but could not find this on a search I I apologize.  Still working with FCP 7 and I'm trying to import a very long clip. Probably close to an hour :45 long captured in AVCHD on scandisk card.  The shorter clips are, of course, fine but the computer crashes on the long clip so I copied the files to my desktop figuring the card couldn't handle the transfer of the long clip.  Now for the life of me I can't figure out how to get log and transfer to talk to the desktop instead of the card reader.  I've done this before.  I know I have.  I think.  I'm pretty this will solve the issue of importing the long clip.  Help please.
