Q: Is there more recent support for this?

The recorder on my 5th gen iPod touch uses m4 files, not WAV, and it doesn't seem to allow the files to be accessed within or downloaded to iTunes. Help!

P.S. I can email them to myself, but the files only seem to play, even when saved to folders on my computer, when the attachments in my email box aren't deleted. If I delete the email, I can't play the file.

What happens when you import the videos by:
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

HandBrake is a good app to convert them do a different format.
