Q: MacBook pro keeps freezing. No indication as to why.

Hi

My 1 year old MacBook Pro has, in the last month or so started freezing more and more often. These are like old-school crashes. Freeze the machine, no indication of kernel panic, don't seem to get a crash log for half of them, the ones I do seem to be lots of different System software (Mail, Airplay)

I don't know how to read a crash log incidentally but i can see what app caused it

Any thoughts?

Ben

    Hi

thanks for this - i will post this tomorrow whenim back at the office where MBP is

I have no idea which app it might be!

Nothing is being suspicious. Wunderlist and Evernote crash a bit but when they do they only crash themselves. I feel its an Apple one.

Nothing exciting in the Etrecheck report.

Reset the SMC and the NVRAM:

    Any discernible improvement?

    No id isn;rt see anything.

I was trying to avoid having to work in safe mode but I guess ill do that. I'll reset SMC and VRAM as well

The thing I'm finding weird is there seems to be no crash logs for these crashes

Ugh I'm feeling stupid now - i was looking at a different folder of logs. the one you pointed me too has loads.

Whats best - to paste the last one, just the top part?

A lot of them seem to be labelled 'windowserver'

    Hmmm

although the times seem to correspond with when the freezes are happening i can't see 'panic report' on any of them. Where would that be? at the top? These are all under 'system diagnostic reports'

On the MBP that I am using now (Mt. Lion OSX) they are listed under 'DIAGNOSTICREPORTS' (one word)  Since you have El Capitan installed, there may be a change.   Post the latest one anyway.  I am not that well versed in these, but some one may see it and offer some good advice.

be sure to update Flash Player, as the etrechek report indicates it is out-of-date, and having an out-of-date Flash player may cause hangs.

download using the System preferences > Flash Player -OR-

    directly from the maker:

    http://get/adobe.com/flashplayer

Panic and hangs in WindowServer correlate strongly with graphic card hardware problems.

There appear to be a problem in early version of 10.11 that causes trouble with iris graphics in the 13-in MacBook pro.

You should first make certain you have a Trusted Backup (because it is Prudent to do so) then update to 10.11.5, which early reports say may clear the iris graphics issue.
