I heard from a friend recently that they had somehow made two apple IDs (one possibly for an older laptop) and that in the apple system the two had somehow got mixed up (different IDs were used for different programs) in the end I think the guy in Tech support had to delete one of the IDs (which includes the data stored for that ID so be careful there) and reset one of them for everything.

I use it to log in to icloud and this forum on the same macbook and it works fine on the other devices, but thanks for trying. I have another session with tech support booked but as the two hours today didn't lead anywhere I thought I'd ask if anybody had experienced a similar problems. One more bit of information: this problem occured after I had updated to El Capitan and I have recently changed my apple ID password.
