May 23, 2016 9:10 AM in response to Headingwestby Allan Eckert,My recommendation is to uninstall Norton. It is a worthless scam on a Mac. It offers none of the claimed additional protection. All it is capable of doing is causing problems.

May 23, 2016 9:13 AM in response to Allan Eckertby macjack,Uninstall Norton. There are no viruses that can attack your Mac. They are selling a cure for a disease that doesn't exist. And they are renowned for borking Mac systems.
A Mac can pick up browser pop-ups and the like, but not if you just use common sense. You really have to actively invite some malware in for it to happen. That means downloading and knowingly giving your password for it to download. Mac provides all the protection you need with SIP (System Integrity Protection). About System Integrity Protection on your Mac - Apple Support If you do happen to download adware you can use MalwareBytes.to get rid of it. MalwareBytes is used by Apple Geniuses at Apple Store Genius Bars. It is also recommended by Apple Community Hosts, and by Apple Telephone Support agents.
Also stay away from programs that purport to "clean your Mac". Your Mac needs no cleaning, all the cleaning that is necessary is taken care of quite well by the system.

May 23, 2016 10:05 AM in response to Headingwestby Klaus1,Norton Antivirus (made by Symantec) has a very long and illustrious reputation for mangling Mac OS X systems, sometimes to the point where a complete reinstall is necessary. Among other things, it installs kernel extensions which are known to cause kernel panics and system freezes; it contains known and documented bugs which can silently corrupt Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign files, destroy a user's ability to authenticate as an administrator, and (on PPC systems) can cause Classic to stop functioning; and Symantec has on at least two occasions now released flawed .dat file updates which erroneously report certain critical Mac OS X files as "viruses." (Deleting these "viruses" causes damage to the system that in some cases renders it unbootable.)
Norton has also been reported as damaging iPhone backups.
A major security flaw in Norton has also been noted:

May 23, 2016 2:42 PM in response to Headingwestby Linc Davis,Please remove the Norton/Symantec product(s) by following these instructions. If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different. If you tried to remove it by dragging an application to the Trash, reinstall it and finish the job.
Back up all data before making any changes. Never install any "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" product again.

It does nothing but cause headaches.
It is horrible software with a decade or more history of causing issues.
