Try these steps, which have resolved the same issue for some other users:
- On your iPhone in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wrist Detection - check that this is turned on.
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - turn Fitness Tracking off (or turn it on, if it is currently turned off).
- Restart both devices by turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:
- To turn your iPhone off: press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears; drag it to turn off. To restart, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
- To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off. To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
- If you turned Fitness Tracking off in step 2, now return to the setting and re-enable it.
