Q: Notifications not being shown

I had this question yesterday, which I marked answered a bit too early here: Notifications pushed to screen.

The issue persists. After 24 hours using the Apple Watch, I did have received notifications, they didn't show up in the screen nor I got any haptic notification. Those are set to the maximum level of vibration.

I have seen the red dot, my iPhone was locked and away and the Watch didn't notify anything. I have read a lot of posts here and other sources mentioning the same issue, recommending shutting the iPhone, iPad and Watch down and then turning them back on. I have tested several settings combinations with no joy. If I switch off the Watch, they get fine as they did to the iPhone or Mac.

Some of the things I have tried:

  • Setting the apps from Mirror to Custom and specify notifications there
  • Turning off/on Cover to Mute (I had it off)
  • Restarting the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Watch
  • Turning off/on Wrist Detection

The only thing I can think of is that I'm using a Mac where I use all the apps which should be sending notifications, like Messages, Slack, Phone, Calendar or Telegram, but not using those apps at the same time, so notifications got through the iPhone but using a Mac may be the cause for not getting to the Watch?

Some of the threads I have checked:

I am not getting notifications on my apple watch

Haptic not working on Apple watch messages

Is there anything I'm obviously missing?

    Hi,

Have you unpaired then repaired your Apple Watch an iPhone yet to see if that helps?

Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone

Doubtful any if this has anything to do with your Mac. Your Apple Watch is synced to your iPhone only.

Thank you Carolyn. I did that yesterday evening, (it's noon now). I'll get back later on the day or tomorrow to see whether it works.

I did some testing and it worked, so it looks promising.

As a side note, I have also read that haptic notifications are not that strong, but I don't know whether it has improved since watchOS 1? I still miss a stronger pulse with no sound.

TL;DR: Turn on Sounds in your iPhone > Settings > Notifications > App > turn on Sound

    IMG_7660.png

New finding in case that it is useful for anyone else having this issue: if I have sounds disabled in notifications settings in my iPhone, which I usually do, Apple Watch does not notify when they arrive. If I tap, they are there in the red dot, but I never get the haptic vibration.

If I turn sound on in the iPhone settings, the Watch does vibrate and I get the notification on screen when I tap instead of seeing the red dot.

So instead of having no sound and no need to check my phone I now have two chimes for every message.

In addition, I was updating some apps in the phone and a message arrived: I got the notification in the Apple Watch too, even with the Phone unlocked and screen on.

When I say "tap" I also mean raise the wrist, as I have tested with both Wrist Detection on and off and Wake Screen on Wrist Raise on and off.

I have already left feedback in this regard as I thought a key part of the Apple Watch was seamless notifications from the iPhone, not needing to check it that often, and anyways there is definitely something wrong, or not fully developed yet, in the way notifications are handled.
