Brand new MacBook Pro Retina shuts off randomly when in use. Not a battery issue.

15 inch MacBook Pro Retina display, bought less than a week ago. only things I have downloaded are google chrome and spotify. It will shut down randomly and I can't make it come back on by pressing any keys, plugging it in or holding the power button. I just have to wait for it to decide to come back on. some times if I close the lid and open it again the computer will decide to turn on. This has happened when the battery has a full charge as well. I'm very gentle with the computer, and treat it like its my baby. Tends to happen if I am moving the computer from one place to another (from sitting on the floor to a dresser top or something of the like). very bothersome, especially since this computer is brand-new from the store.

You shouldn't have to concern yourself with this. Contact AppleCare and have them fix it. If you don't want to do that return the MacBook Pro for a full cash refund, and buy another. You have 14 days to do that (assuming you purchased it directly from Apple and not a reseller).

AppleCare will probably have you perform an SMC reset. Read the following: If your Mac doesn't sleep or wake when expected - Apple Support. The SMC Reset instructions are near the end. Given the symptoms you describe I don't believe that will result in a permanent fix, so I strongly suggest you take advantage of Apple's no-questions-asked refund policy and simply buy another.
