I believe I am actually having this same problem if not very similar. My iBook turns on, I get the the white screen with the grey apple and the gear-like thing spins, but never loads OSX. I've restarted with 'shift' held as well and resetting the Pram and anything else I can find on the site here. Any help?

Thanks all.
Tim.

P.S. Just joined these wonderful forums and can't find how to post my own topic.

Hi,

Welcome to the Discussions.

There is no reset button on G4s. Resetting the PMU is a 4 key combination. To shut it down in this state, hold the power button until it shuts off.

1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
3. Wait 5 seconds.
4. Press the Power button to restart the iBook computer.

The following article may help.

Telling someone like me NOT to press a button just makes me want to press it all the more. I wouldn't be so curious if there was an explanaition for the often repeated phrase "Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes." Does it reformat your hard drive? Does it blow up the computer? Does it put the computer in some sort of diagnostics mode? Or does it simply render the key-combination as an invalid key-combination making the desired effect not happen?
