Hyperlinks only work within the presentation on the projector screen,  not from "Presenter Display" on the Mac display.

Thanks Gary, but I was not doing anything different from a thousand times before (that I can think of). It was just a straightforward presentation with songs hyperlinked and an "end" icon that took the user back to the first page. It worked before projecting and stopped when linked up. I then had to restart to get it working again, but only when not AV connected and the presentation run. As soon as reconnected to the AV it stopped the hyperlinks working.

What version of Keynote is this?

Was the presentation created in the version you are using to play?

What display are you using to click on the links?

    Are the displays mirrored?

    Are you using Presenter Display?

What version of Keynote is this? 6.6.2

Was the presentation created in the version you are using to play? Yes

What display are you using to click on the links? Laptop

    Are the displays mirrored? No

Are you using Presenter Display? I just connect the AV projector via VGA cable and adaptor and run the Keynote. On the laptop I see the current and next screen and the clock. Advancing with space bar, return or arrows all works as does pressing a number for a slide then return to take me straight to the slide (a trick I just learned). But the hyperlinks do not change to a hand symbol when hovered and do not work. When escaped from the run presentation the hyperlink icons show the little arrow that indicates that they still think they are a hyperlink.

As intimated in my first reply, hyperlinks do not work with Presenter Display, (on the laptop). This is normal and correct operation for Keynote.

Hyperlinks only action on the primary presentation display (the projector).

I cannot see what I have done differently from before. I have always been able to use a hyperlinked list of songs (for children singing from the screen) then return to the menu from a hyperlinked button to pick another.

From your last reply, you are clicking on the presenter display - hyperlinks do not work with presenter display, therefore they will not work.

Click on the links viewed on the main presentation screen.

So. How do I get a hyperlinked menu on screen and use it like I used to do? (Thanks for the help by the way!)
