RAW image DATA compatibility issue?

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro w/ Retina display running OS X El Capitan, version 10.11.5. I recently upgraded my camera from a Canon EOS Rebel T3 to a Canon 80D and prefer to shoot using RAW format. When I import pics into Photos, thumbnails appear but the picture does not open when I click on them...instead, a gray triangle with an exclamation point appears. Also, I am able to create a slideshow which leads me to believe that the images have not been corrupted. I have seen updates correcting RAW image DATA compatibility issues. Is this one of those issues and if so, how can I get it fixed?

I do not see your camera on the list of supported cameras for OS X 10.11.5, see: Digital camera RAW formats supported by OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

But Apple is usually pretty quick to support the newest Canon and Nikon cameras.

Use the software that came with your camera to develop the RAW files, while you are waiting for the camera to be supported by OS X.

Added:

The list for Adobe RAW is here: https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html#Can on

Canon EOS-80D is already supported.

You can use the DNG Converter to convert the Canon RAW to DNG: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintos h

Or wait for your Camera to be supported by the DxO Optics Pro for Photos Photo Editing Extension. This extension is available from the AppStore allows you to develop the RAW directly from Photos for Mac's editing panel, once it is installed. DxO is continually adding support for new cameras.

The list of supported cameras is here: http://www.dxo.com/us/photography/photo-software/dxo-opticspro/supported-cameras

You can check, when your camera will be supported.
