Can't log into old phone to de-activate Find My iPhone

Hi,

Recently my stepdad sold my old iphone 4 only for them to send it back because it's logged into an old Apple ID that I can't remember for the life of me what it is as I haven't used it in years. I've tried apple's way of trying to recover my Apple ID but i can't remember the email I used to set it up with. Any ideas??
