I Have a Us account and recently moved to canada and want to add a canadian iTunes gift card to my account

You can't. For all sorts of reasons like taxing authority, copyright issues, etc. your iTunes account is tied to the iTunes store in the country where you reside. You will need to change your country of origin in your iTunes profile.
