Q: Selecting/Changing colors serially without closing/reopening color palette

I'm using Keynote a lot more and it's driving me crazy that I can't seem to edit colors serially without closing and reopening the color palette. Am I doing something wrong?

I am not sure that I understand your question.

Are you wanting to ONLY select from the area that looks like a grid?

It is often easier to use the Color window that appears if you click beside the more limited color area (or Show Colors from the View Menu) as this remains open. You can 'limit' the colour choices by filling the areas below the Opacity slider with the colours you want to use in your current document. Colours do often need to be dragged from the larger square beside the eye dropper.

Apologies, in hind sight my question was poorly worded. See below for illustration:

I insert a text box or shape onto my slide

I highlight said text box or shape and invoke color window to change color

I select new color (text box or shape changes color as desired)

I click anywhere on slide background (note that color window is still open)

I want to change color of text box or shape again, or edit color of any  element on my slide

I feel I should be able to do so with the open color window but cannot

I have to close the open color window and invoke again before I can edit color of any elements on my slide

    • click the shape on the slide to select
    • click on the colour wheel to select the colour
    • click and drag from the colour patch next to the colour picker icon
    • drop on to the colour well in fill, border or shadow
    • repeat as many times as you need to change colour

When you insert a new Text box, you are on the Text panel by default. You can choose a sequence of colors from the ink well, and/or the color picker (globe).

When you then switch to the Style panel, and choose to apply a border line color, that inkwell will permit you to cycle through its colors, but the floating color picker from the Text coloration will no longer apply to the border lines. This is where you will need to close the color picker, and relaunch it, before it can have focus on the border lines, and apply one, or multiple color choices. This also applies if you switch from the Style panel back to the Text panel, and want to change the text color.

Now, you deselect the Text box. When you reselect it, you are by default, placed on the Style panel. If the floating color picker was open when you transitioned away from the Text box focus, and then reselected it, that color picker must be closed, and reopened. The conditions of paragraph 2 now apply again.

Thanks to you all for chiming in.

@VikingOSX honed in on my issue: I was hoping there was a way to switch between Text panel and Style panel without needing to close and reopen the color picker but it appears there isn't.
