Try charging your watch for at least 2.5 hours, following the instructions here:
- Check your battery and charge your Apple Watch - Apple Support
Upon removing it from the charger after that time, should you find that it has not already restarted automatically during charging, try force restarting it again:
- Press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for around 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo, then release them and wait for the watch to restart.

May 24, 2016 4:12 PM in response to SJL31by Jonathan UK,It is normal for Apple Watch, the power adapter and the charging cable to become warm during charging.
However, if your watch experiences above-normal temperatures during charging, remove it from its charger, move it to a cooler place and let it cool down before putting it on or continuing to charge it.
As previously advised, check also that you are charging it in accordance with Apple's instructions.
