Q: Earphones for my shuffle not working properly

I have an older iPod shuffle, the one that has no buttons and is entirely operated through the switch on the ear plugs.

It is still working if I slide the on/off switch, pause mode as well as the shuffling mode. The problem arises when i try to skip songs or go back.

I tried to use brand new earphones, apple original and has the same problem...is it a hardware problem? if so, I have reste it a couple of times and still continues with this issue, ay suggestions welcome...thanks
