Q: Cannot set up Gmail IMAP access on iphone 6
Trying to add my Gmail account to the iphone 6, using IMAP. Google requires placing server PORT and ENCRYPTION settings in the app, but there is no place to enter them, and the app does not work.

Well- I think I found the solution. I was trying to add the Gmail account as an "OTHER" mail account, and there IS a place for the SSL and PORT numbers if you can figure out where ADVANCED settings are. But that still did not work.
I deleted the account, and this time, I added the new account as a "GOOGLE" mail account. Now, it retrieves my 5,238 messages just fine.
