Q: Transferring IPOD DB to new MAC

How do I transfer the content of my old IPOD to my new Mac Laptop?  I've tried all the suggestions and made the necessary changes in the settings but I still can't access the files on the IPOD Nano.  When I try to sync the IPOD, I'm warned that it will wipe out my iTunes library.  I just want to simply transfer the files from the IPOD to the Mac.  I can't even access the folders on the IPOD where the music resides, it is somehow hidden.  I had originally synced the IPOD to a Windows computer.  Is this why I'm having issues finding the files?  Why would Apple make this so difficult???  Thanks for any help!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), iOS 9.3.2

iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from iTunes library to iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod music transfer," you should get some links (including an article by CNET on the topic).

Ideally, you should transfer your complete iTunes library from your old computer to your new Mac.  Your iPod is not designed to be your iTunes data backup or transfer vehicle.  So, if you have access to your old computer, with its iTunes library intact (or have a backup of your iTunes data), please post back for info on the better way to transfer your iTunes data to the new Mac.  You'll then get everything, including supporting data such as playlists, ratings, date added, etc.  Your iTunes library on your new Mac will be the same iTunes library on your old computer.

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. The iLounge article listed near the end explains how to extract the hidden media files from the device.

It worked!  I downloaded the ipod access App to extract the files.  Thanks a bunch for the help!
