Q: MacBook Pro wakes immediately from sleep, unable to reset SMC
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. Recently I have found that it wakes immediately from sleep (lid open or shut, MagSafe connected or not). There are no peripherals connected.
syslog |grep -i "Wake reason" yields this sort of thing (the lid was shut at this time)
Sat May 21 22:33:24 localhost kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason =
Sat May 21 22:33:45 localhost kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason =
Sat May 21 22:34:16 localhost kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason =
Sat May 21 22:34:38 localhost kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason =
Sat May 21 22:35:00 localhost kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason =
Sat May 21 22:35:22 localhost kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason =
Sat May 21 22:35:43 localhost kernel[0] <Debug>: Wake reason =
Frustratingly, there is no reason given for the wake, as you see.
Restarting the machine does not help. I have repeatedly tried to do an SMC reset, but when I release the four keys required, the Mac always powers on. It's not supposed to! And I'm sure my MacSafe adapter light used to change colour when the SMC is reset.
Can anyone suggest anything, beyond shutting the computer down for all the time that I'm not using it?
(The MacBook has previously been subjected to the infamous 2011 MacBook Pro solder-breakdown, and was resoldered by a third-party technician.)
