Q: I have recently had a problem adding still png or jpg graphics - it looks like it is not syncing and gives purple and green patterns.

When adding a graphic to my FCPX video in form of png or jpg or tiff it looks like it does not sync as per picSTILL fault copy.jpg

Possibly your graphics card is struggling to display a large res image. What model is your Mac?

Try resizing one image to something smaller as a test. Preview can do the down-sizing, or if you have an image editor like Photoshop…

Hi Russ,   thanks for reply.   I have reduced size down to 1 mb and it still persists - But I have narrowed it down to this behaviour:  If I take the jpg or png graphic and place it into the timeline then no problem until I alter it in transform or crop - as soon as it has rendered after this application then it changes to the image I attached above!

The file size isn't so much important as the dimensions, the resolution of the image.

What are your complete system specs including graphics capabilities?

Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB

When I bring any completed video from last year back on the timeline it now messes with the graphics when they were fine before. I think I have done something crazy in settings.

384 MB? What's that? What computer holds this graphics card? What are the dimensions of your images?

REset color in dusplay system preferences to the default if it's not there.

Fault .png This video was fine last time I edited it - now when I bring it onto the TL then I lose the graphic. You can see it's fine below but on preview its distorted...

I'm guess this 2011 13 inch MBP is your computer?

You could run Apple Hardware Test to see if it reports any issues.

But I have to think that it's straining your MBP's graphics capabilities. Still images are always challenging for video applications and adding effects makes it more so. Re-reading this thread, it's not clear to me whether you actually resized the photos' resolution (as Tom mentioned). If you're panning and zooming, they probably don't need to be any more than 50% larger than the project resolution. Suggest trying a test project with resolution set to 720P. In Preview, resize a handful of stills so that the height is 720 (1.5 x 480). Keep the aspect ratio of the stills unchanged. (if your stills are 3:2, then your resized photos would be 1080X720 px).

    Good luck.

Thanks Russ, sorry been caught up else where. I will try what you suggest tomorrow.

The strange behaviour that gets me is that programmes I edited last year were fine until now when I call them up again then the graphics do the unsyncing thing.

    Hi Rus,

Ok all sorted. I lowered the res and file size and it is happy. thanks so much guys.

What is still a mystery is why the graphics that have been sitting fine in past videos up to this time now do not playback. Anyway problem solved for this one.

    Thanks
