After an iPhone update, my phone shows a symbol of a cord to be plugged into iTunes. It IS plugged into my laptop--the one from which I downloaded the update. On my MacBook Pro, iTunes showed an error message that the update could not be installed. Shutting down the iPhone did not help.

Thank you for the suggestions. None of the articles helped and neither did changing the outgoing port (the only thing that has been changed on my MacBook Pro since any updates were installed recently). Also, restarting both devices (again) did not help. The "plug into iTunes" symbol on my iPhone is still there. (And, I accidentally clicked the "solved" link on this page!)
