Remote will not turn TCL TV off

This is probably more a question for some TCL forum out there, but in the meantime, I'm having an HDMI CEC issue with my new TCL Roku TV and my ATV4. The ATV will turn the TV off when I put it to sleep, but when I turn the ATV back on, the TCL TV won't turn on. I have all the HDMI CEC and ARC settings turned on and it's recognizing the ATV fine. I previously had a vizio TV that worked fine, both on and off.

The TCL TV has 4 HDMI inputs, and HDMI 1 is an ARC compatible input for 2 way audio, which is where I have the ATV plugged in. Should I try HDMI2 since ARC is really for sound bars, etc?

Hello David,

Your subject and your post are completely contradictory. That said, if you've enabled Control TV... in the ATV, turning on ought to work. Is the HDMI connected direct to the TV input? HDMI-CEC is notoriously funky, though. Each vendor has its own implementation. It might work better if you restart ATV and TV, but who knows. In my setup, with Samsung TV, turning on is reliable, but turning off fails sometimes; no idea why.

Yikes, sorry about that Diana, you're absolutely correct, I made a mistake in the subject line. So officially, the Apple TV remote will only turn both the ATV and TV OFF, that works as expected. But the ATV remote will only turn the ATV on, not the TV. I have to hit the power button on the TV remote to turn it back on. So yes, it sounds like the opposite problem from what you're experiencing on your Samsung.

Good idea to restart the ATV, maybe there are some ghosts in the machine.
