Substring search in Mail.app?

Hi all,

I would like to know what the possibilities are to search for substrings in Mail.app.

Suppose I have this mail with "substring search possibilities" in the body of the mail.

If I look for "possib", then this mail will appear in the search results.

On the other hand, if I look for "ossib", then this mail will not appear.

I haven't found a way to specify this. I would like to know whether it's possible to use wildcards, like "*ossib*",

or whether this could be achieved using search filters, something like "search:contains body:ossib".

(I'm not sure that I can specify search filters this way (e.g. for subject, from/to, ...).)

I know that in Safari when you search with CMD+F, then you can select either "contains" or "starts with" when clicking on the magnifying glass icon.

But this is not possible for search (nor Spotlight, I guess). However, I feel —and hope— that this is possible somehow.

Can anybody point me to some good documentation about this?

Or does anybody know how such searches can be done (or why they cannot be done)?

-- Many thanks,

Franky
