Send to Trash, auto deletes files: Message "This item will be deleted immediately. You can’t undo this action."

I know that there is a button somewhere that allows me to send files to trash when i right click them

But currently the "send to trash" button generates this message "This item will be deleted immediately. You can’t undo this action."

Can anyone guide me to the check button that will allow me to have the standard "send to trash" setup.

Thanks!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

The hidden Trash folder in your home folder has somehow been replaced by a file. The easiest way to solve the problem is to take the steps below. This procedure does not delete anything, but on general principle you should back up all data before you begin, if you don't already have a current backup.

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

mv .Trash $TMPDIR; mkdir .Trash; killall Finder

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.

Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal.

Hi, I have this problem, too. I tried the above solution and I got a "permission denied" message:

mv: rename .Trash to /var/folders/vl/5hg6fppw8xl1lr0059b4q6gh0000gq/T/.Trash: Permission denied

mkdir: .Trash: File exists

Is there something else I can try? I also was having a problem with my iMac shutting down suddenly. After talking with AppleCare and running diagnostics (HD appeared ok) I was told to take it in to the Apple Store. They reinstalled my system and didn't find anything wrong with the hardware. I also asked them about this problem with the trash, and I found out when I got home that they didn't fix this.

Thanks for any help. I'm running Yosemite 10.10.5 on my iMac (27-inch, Late 2012)
