What screen resolution will I get?

Hi,

I'm about to buy a new monitor, to connect to my Macbook Pro 15" mid 2012. Now the thing is that my computer only supports up to 2650x1600, and I would like to buy a 4k (3840x2160). I will most likely buy a new computer (macbook) within the next 12 month, that supports 4k, so my question is: If I buy a 4k monitor now, will it still work on my current computer, but with a resolution that is limited to 2856x1600 (or 1440), or will it simply not work at all? I.e. I can live with a resolution of 2856x1600 (or 1440) until a buy a new model.

My idea was to buy the: Samsung U28E590D.

I use my computer for my university studies, stock analysis, and music production. No gaming at all. What monitor could you recomend with a limited budget?

Min. 27 inch,

Min. 2856x1440, but I would prefer a 3860x2160.

As little latency as possible.

ANY RECOMENDATIONS?

Best regards,

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

of cause the higher res the less problems running it out of it's native res

but otherwise the rule of thumb is if you can't run it in the native res then run it in a res modulus 2 of the native res

that way every pixel will be 4 8 or 16 pixels and the monitor will not have to make a judgement as how many pixels should be on making that blur we
