My external monitor acquired an extra uncontrollable desktop

I have six desktops (spaces) setup. My external monitor has invented a seventh desktop for itself. I can't get rid of it -- when I move the cursor over the desktop in Mission Control I don't get the X that I get with the other desktops.. I can't figure out how it got there or how to make it go away, and it's screwing some things up. Sometimes it seems that I can't even drag a window on to it, though most of the time I an.

I don't think this has anything to do with the monitor Besides, it's a Samsung not an Apple monitor.


The issue is the appearance of a desktop that the system invented that can't be deleted and only appears on my external display. In fact the Desktop 7 that I showed in the OP doesn't appear when the external display is not connected. My desktops are set to sync between the two displays, so something very weird is going on.
