May 27, 2016 8:39 PM in response to avi66by John Lockwood,★HelpfulYou could try VLC.
If you mean for editing then sadly Apple is very, very backwards these days in terms of codec support. You are probably going to need to look at Adobe Premier instead.
Its a bit chicken and the egg at the moment, we don't know if the reason Final Cut Pro X is being neglected is because the Mac Pro has not been upgraded, or have Apple decided to abandon the Mac Pro because they are no longer interested in the Pro market at all.

May 27, 2016 8:51 PM in response to avi66by Scott Thomas3,★HelpfulPerhaps you could try DaVinci Resolve from BlackMagic Design? I haven't tested it yet, but I read that it can handle H265 files.
There is a conversion utility called Rocky Mountain Movie Converter that is free that will transcode H265. I've used it to convert to ProRes.

May 27, 2016 8:46 PM in response to John Lockwoodby avi66,Thank you John,
VLC works for viewing, you are correct thank you.
for editing ? your comment is sad indeed, as I was planning to use my MacPro and final cut.
I find it hard to imagine that BlackMagic will not know that H.265 is not supported by Apple Quicktime.
Should you find a third party fix in addition to VLC kindly let me know.
I'm glad I'm not alone.

May 27, 2016 10:21 PM in response to avi66by Scott Thomas3,I tried Resolve version 12 tonight with some 4K H265 files I had. (Recorded with a Samsung NX1 camera) I was able to view them, although it was unable to play it back in real-time. (4K H265 on a 2012 PowerMac apparently takes a lot of CPU power) I would be able to convert it to another format through Resolve though.
There are two versions of Resolve, the full version that costs around $1K, and a "free" version that only works with resolutions up to 1080 HD.
Go to BlackMagic's website and try it yourself: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/
Rocky Mountain Movie Converter is here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/rockymountainsmovieconverter/
