Q: endless passcode prompts

Hi

Check that you have enabled Wrist Detection:

- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wrist Detection.

If you have not yet done so, it may help to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

- Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

- Update the software on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Otherwise, the following steps may help:

• Restart both your iPhone and your watch:
  • Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first;
  • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off;
  • To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

• Unpair and re-pair your watch:
  • The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app.
  • Choose to Restore from Backup during set up. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).
  • Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support
  • Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If the issue persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation with a view to having your watch checked (under warranty, if eligible):

I have a very similar problem.  Tech support told me that the new update makes a locked watch face the default!  I have to unlock the watch to do anything once I raise it to my wrist.

I have lodged a complaint to Apple about this new "feature." http://www.apple.com/feedback/

If you have Wrist detection enabled, that is most certainly not the case. I have the latest update on my Watch. I never have to enter the passcode because I have it set to unlock if I use my iPhone and have Wrist Detection enabled.

Note that some permanent or temporary changes to your skin - such as some wrist tattoos - can affect the performance of the watch's sensor. This can lead the watch to mistakenly believe that it has been removed from the wrist, even if it is still being worn.
