Time capsule with backup from HD on a MBP with SSD ?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Time Capsule from Apple and backed up my whole 500gb hard drive thats on my Macbook Pro 13" (Late 2011 model). I was wondering what I have to anticipate and what is going to happen if I buy a Macbook Pro Retina that's gonna have a SSD drive (probably smaller in size) as well as a different logic board ?

- Is the time capsule gonna be recognized by the new Macbook Pro Retina and will I be able to continue to back up to it, to add to it ?

- Will I be able to access the files that I backed up from the MBP Late 2011 by accessing the Time Capsule with the MBP Retina ?

- Is there anything else I should be aware of based on everyone's experience ?

On first boot of the new machine the Setup assistant will ask if you want to move your User to the new Machine. Highly recommended for a seamles transition.

From there after after a reboot or two and the first time you start the TM/TC back up it will ask you if you want to "inherit" the TM. Yes

Thanks a lot for your answer ! I expect that it would work like that as I saw the migration option during setup several times but I didn't know about the Inherit function.

However I was wondering, if I choose to transition this way, will the Time Capsule copy all its data to the SSD ? Because if my HD is 500gb and my SSD is lets say 256gb it's gonna tank no ?

Well it depends on how full the original HD is, and what you choose to move over to the new machine.

So if I migrate only my "Computer & Settings" files and my "User files", then it won't overflow my SSD but the continuity between the old computer and the new one will be assured and I'll be able to continue to add to the old time capsule/time machine combo with the new MBP Retina ?
