Q: v 6.6.2 (2571) size limits?

I'm running OSX 10.11.5 on a MacBook Pro with 16GB of memory 2.9 GHz processor and 150 GB of HD space remaining.

Since the update to Keynote 6.6.2 I'm having problem editing my projects. All apps are off except for Keynote. I'm working on a project that is 10.2 GB. I can play the project but when I try to add a new slide or edit a slide Keynote spins and does not respond.

Does Keynote have a size limit?

Is there something I can do to continue working on this project. I'm going to go back and render the 5 short videos to a smaller size and see if that helps.

Any suggestions appreciated!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), Adobe Suite

You may be running out of memory, as the 10.2 GB project may expand once it is loaded into Keynote. When this issue develops, see if you can run Activity Monitor (Launchpad : Other : Activity Monitor) and look at your Memory tab (Memory Pressure and Swap Used), and CPU tab (System .vs. User) load.

An especially bad time to open Keynote with this project is within the first 30 minutes after a fresh boot in the morning. It will be in competition with Software Update, Help file index rebuilds, and Spotlight indexing of your boot drive and Time Machine external drive.

Apple does not stipulate the upper bounds for a Keynote project size, but your project is formidable in its scope.

    VikingOSX, Thank you for responding!

I did a restart and waited 30 minutes to open Keynote. No change. Added a new blanck slide and saved. Immediately Keynote stopped responding.

I turned off several memory background users; Norton Virus, CleanMyMac, Adobe Cloud.

I did notice that Adobe Cloud is still very active in the Activity Monitor readings. I'm changing the Keynote project videos from 1080p to 720p to lower the load.

Can I purge the cache files somehow? They seem to grow when Keynote is launched. Thnaks for your help!

Activity Monitor Info before launching Keynote:

    CPU

         System .99% - 20.25%

         User 1.27% - 4.7%

         Idle 98% +/-

    Launched Keynote

    Memory Pressure:

         Physical 16 GB

         Used 3.68 GB

Cached Files 8 - 12 GB (it grows even after force quit Keynote)

         App 1.92 GB

         Wired 1.75 GB

         Compressed 0 bytes

Follow the vendors' instructions for a complete removal of Norton Anti-virus, and Clean my Mac. There are no viruses attacking Macs, and aside from the waste of money, and system resources, it is one of the worst offenders for interfering with the built-in OS X security, and compromises the stability of your Mac. It may actually be the reason that Keynote hangs. The so-called Mac Cleaners often go too aggressive on removals, thus damaging applications and the operating system. Once you have removed that unnecessary software, reboot your Mac. I have never run an anti-virus, or "cleaner" application on my OS X releases in over a decade. Have not regretted it.

No viruses, but a growing number of malware attacks are becoming an issue. Watch what you click on web sites. Avoid advertisements, and look before you leap on those download buttons. This is becoming a real PITA.

I cannot comment on Adobe Cloud, and its impact on your operating system.

Well, I'm older than you (72) and have far more experimental experience in jumping on the bandwagon. Thanks for the advice. I'll dump both soon. I also formatted the videos and now Keynote will accept edits Whew!

Thanks for your help - much appreciated!

Oh, can I safely delete the files I used to make the Keynote presentation? I have backed up the files.
