Photos library says it has inconsistencies and needs to be rebuilt but unexpected error keeps occurring

Photos library says it has inconsistencies and needs to be rebuilt but unexpected error keeps occurring and telling me Photos has to quit. no idea what to do, library is stored on an external drive which I even tried repairing in disk Utility

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

And what is the format of the EHD? It must ony be Mac OS extended (journaled) - Is it?

yes it should be, it's worked fine up until yesterday

Great - but what is it it? It should be but since you have problems we need to be sure it is

select eh EHD in the finder and get info and verify the format
